UCLA Law Report on Tracking Attacks on CRT

The report, CRT Forward: Tracking the Attack on Critical Race Theory, chronicles the origins of the attacks and their spread, demonstrating how laws, policies, and other government actions linked to anti-“CRT” advocacy have infiltrated federal, state, and local governments and broadly restricted — and chilled — the ability of students and teachers to speak truthfully about race, racism, and systemic racism.

New Report in Cultural Responsiveness

We are excited to announce the release of a new report, Lessons in (In)Equity: An Evaluation of Cultural Responsiveness in Elementary ELA Curriculum. This report used the Culturally Responsive Curriculum Scorecard to evaluate samples of curriculum from three of the nation’s most widely used elementary school English Language Arts (ELA) curricula (McGraw Hill’s Wonders, Savvas’ myView, and Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt’s IntoReading) to analyze their levels of cultural responsiveness.

Organizing for Racial Justice in Our Schools

Over the past year, public schools across the country have been roiled by attacks on critical race theory and education equity that aim to roll back the progress that parents, youth, and educators have made toward anti-racist schools that teach students the truth.

EJ-ROC is excited to announce a partnership with Race Forward’s H.E.A.L. Together Initiative (Honest Education, Action and Leadership) and the Schott Foundation for Public Education parents, youth and communities that are organizing for education justice in the face of attacks on critical race theory and education equity.

Parent Props and their Funders

In truth, the Right has been massing its forces for years to undermine public education, but the sudden proliferation of “parents” and “moms” groups has signaled a new and more virulent turn. Parents, educators, administrators, and school boards face a barrage of new parent groups in their communities, insisting that curriculum, policies, and practices match their beliefs regardless of community norms. This report will lay bare some of the most prominent conservative and neoliberal groups and suggest clues by which those cherish public schools can identify and expose the phonies hiding under the guise of parent power.
